Hey guys, my coin related activities are going to be curtailed in the coming weeks. That process had already begun earlier this month.
A couple weeks ago, my 6 year old Labrador retriever mutt ruptured his cranial cruciate ligament (a.k.a. a dog's ACL). I've had a three legged dog for most of September. He had surgery today. The procedure went very well, and importantly, his opposite knee and leg seem to be in good health. However, he was an absolute disaster emotionally—shrieking, snarling, wild—which I knew would probably happen.
I had harbored some hopes that I could quietly work from home for the next few weeks, keeping an eye on him, but I think that isn't going to happen. This is going to be a 24/7 job. If he's like this with a nerve block, tomorrow is probably going to be the worst day of his life. The pain of having plates screwed into his bones will be intense.
If you pray, please spare a prayer for good ol' Tucker dog. He is a really sweet dog, but he is outside himself now in distress.

Wishing Tucker and You all the best. I'm sure he'll get plenty of care and love. Forget about CCF and take care of your pup.

oh Brand, so sorry to hear about your furry friend, Please take good care of him AND yourself in the coming weeks. best wishes to doggie for minimal discomfort and speedy recovery! geez, the people I work for on washington street have a small doggie that blew out one of his knees recently.

Thanks, guys!
After yesterday's trials, I ended up sleeping on the floor with my buddy about halfway through the night. It has been a much better morning. We went outside twice, Tucker ate a bunch of plain chicken and drank water. He has been sleeping between my feet since about 8 a.m.. I am relieved that he has an appetite, because I can give him medications.
I snapped a few coin pics when I got more coffee, so maybe some limited participation will still be possible.
Really appreciate the kind thoughts. =)

He is doing really well. We haven't used the lifting sling since the first day. We haven't had any major setbacks, although we did have a scare involving a foul smell on the second day. Turns out it was the antiseptic that they apply after shaving the leg. Tucker is even putting some weight on the leg and taking a few steps. The wound looks great.
My only challenge so far is that he figured out how to defeat the neck donut. So I've had to put him in the cone at night to sleep. The cone really upsets him, so I have spent the last three nights sleeping in his enclosure with him. Not very exciting sleeping on the floor, but that won't last forever.
The new emerging challenge is that he is bored. Tucker wants badly to play tug of war or chase games. He even tried to force his way past the baby gate to run up the stairs to the second floor (stairs are a big no-no right now). I have used quite a supply of zip ties to make gates all over the house.
I received some pretty neat coins in the mail. I will eventually get back to my coin desk, but it might be a while.

I'm glad he is doing well. would like to see you al curled up in the enclosure though  Do you use a leg brace for him to support that knee? I suggested one a few posts up stream here. it may help  |
