To be honest this is the first one I've ever seen. Lovely coin no matter what the grade. So, just to follow and play along AU-58

I expect some soft detail is strike weakness rather than wear. Some luster is visible. Solid AU, maybe 55 or 58. Looks expensive!

Looks Unc to me for sure. I'd be in the 63+ area. Wonderful coin no matter what it grades!

It's been 47 hours, not 48--forgive me. PCGS calls it AU(58)+. I think it's a pretty good strike and I can't really see any wear on it. I wonder: if I were to play the resubmit game (which I am not looking to do right now), would this coin possibly get the MS(63) grade I (and two out of four community members who graded this) think it could pull off?

I'd get more opinions before cracking it out and resubbing it. The crack out game is costly and is stacked against you. Sometimes its ok just to leave things alone and be happy with what you have now. It is a lovely coin as is. Good luck with whatever you decide to do!

I would have said high AU, so leave it as it is. Regardless, a very nice example!

I could be wrong but I had the impression that PCGS has a photo record of the coins graded in the "secure" slabs with the gold shield logo. If you resubmit the cracked-out coin would PCGS find its image on file and just re-slab it at the previous AU-58+ grade?
I have a couple PCGS-slabbed coins with shield labels. I might want to attempt a re-grade but thought it would be a waste to try PCGS again. If I'm mistaken about their policy I'd like to know!

Thank you, everyone. I think there was a slight misunderstanding. I was asking out of curiosity, but specifying that I have no interest in doing it at this moment. @jaobler. I don't know PCGS's rules very well. I do know that I cracked out an 1800 Draped Bust Half Dime that they labeled "AU Details--Cleaned" and sent it back, then got "MS Details--Cleaned." If I ever get more serious about trying to send this coin back in, then I will ask about strategies for how to go about it
