I've been looking for this and finally found one after $6,200 of nickels searched. Does anyone know the attribution for this one?  Here's a close up of the region below the bust where the designer's initials (FG) should be.  Here is the FG on another 1990D Jefferson, to compare to the image above.  Edited by robbudo

Congrats ... I have one too. ONE I think it is simply the result of a grease and metal particle filled die area. Not as famous as some of the Kennedy half dollars such as the 1982 P that are missing the FG on the reverse but it has been recognised as a coin we look for. I have mine in with my oddball varieties and errors Jefferson nickels. |

I've stopped going through nickel rolls for awhile, but I had found something like ten of them in 21,000+ rolls. Still have all of them. Plus one was given to me as a gift from somebody on this Forum a few years ago when I was expressing my frustration at not being able to find one. I know who they are, and they know who they are. I keep that coin in a very special place; it means a lot to me.  And by the way, robbudo, yours is VERY sharp for this issue, as this was caused by the overpolishing of a die that had been well used. That's a nice one. Mine is an '88-P. Mine is obviously a very well worn die that's been heavily polished, yours is still pretty sharp. I see quite a few with very weak initials, but I've only got the one where it's completely absent. |

Good thoughts. Nice to know about the '88P Captain - I guess it is theoretically possible on any date. coppernickel. You've found 10! ever tried selling one? I wonder what it would go for on the Bay. I'm very pleased with the details on mine. A couple heavy hits on the coin, though, but it's nice to have the sharp details. thenickelguy. it just went in a 2X2 and put with the Cuds I've found and the black beauty from '59. |

robbudo: I did try to move a few of them, both on the Forum and on ebay. No interest; set the price at $10. In no hurry to try again but you never know! Captain, Somewhere I have a 1984 with nothing but a dot for the MM as it was so overpolished. If I can find it I will post a pic. |

Funny you should say you tried selling them for $10 - I was thinking they were worth $10. But I guess a very low supply doesn't mean squat if there is no demand.
