Over the years I've been asking dealers at coin shows what they do with used Albums and Folders. Many buy collections and take the coins out to sell separatelly and many throw out the Albums and Folders. A few dealers eventually started to bring me some. One even broght me over 40 of them one time.
At a coin show last Sunday a dealer brought me 3 Folders. As I walked around with them several other dealers asked if I was selling coins since they saw the Folders. I explained that I got them free from a dealer that occationally gives me them. I also mentioned that if they had some they planned on throwing out, could they just give them to me and a few more said OK at the next show I can have some.
I've been getting from 3 to 20 Albums and Folders per show now and all free. Any I don't want I give to other collectors, neighborhood kids and to someone I know at a flea market to sell.
If your planning on going to a coin show, try carrying an empty Album or Folder. You too might end up with some free ones.

While not free, I see these all the time at garage sales and places like Goodwill for usually dirt cheap (compared to the new retail price).

Some coin shops have these in boxes marked for clearance at next to free prices. It doesn't hurt to ask if they dont have any out front. They are usually more then happy to help you out.

A shop near me has a few boxes full of them and sells them dirt cheap and gives them free to kids.

A local coin show usually has the empty Whitman folders at the entrance for free. They are used but not abused!

Just carl, do you have a Jefferson nickel album that you'd be able to part with?

Not right now since by this time I've given away almost all of the ones I pick up at shows. Supposedy at the next coin show, this coming Sunday, several dealers promised to give me a real large assortment. One of them is the dealer that gave me over 40 of them not long ago. If there are any I'll mark this post and let you know by next Sunday.

If not I'd be happy with any album that you wouldn't mind parting with, I dont have one album in my collection. It would go to good use....I could use any. I'd even pay for shipping! PM me.

just Carl, I dream about these albums so if you have any extra Lincoln, Jefferson or State Quarter that you wont need, I would be happy to pay the shipment and I dont think it will cost much as you will ship to my friends in Chicago.

If not, just keep me in your mind when you go to the next show

Had a free one given to my grandson today. The dealer had them 3 for a dollar but he gave it to him when we made another purchase.

egcollector: The postage is what I have been thinking about since those Albums do get heavy. But to send to someone in the Chicago area shouldn't be to bad at all. I never know what I'm going to get from those dealers at the coin shows but I'll keep you in mind and let you know. And if in Chicago, find out if in the NorthWest area and if so, I might be able to just drop them off.

Everyone once in a while I get a spare folder and give it to my church. We have a childrens program (kind of like Boy Scouts) where they can earn badges for completing various projects. There is a coin collecting badge.

Now here is something funny. I have no idea how to use a PM thing on this forum. Didn't even know there was a place or tag or whatever to go to a PM place. Never received one that I know of and wouldn't know if I did since I don't know where that would show up.
This old age stuff is getting to be something.
