Maybe rarity should be judged as:

- if you had $100,000, what coins could you still not buy?
- if you had $1,000,000, what coins would you want to buy, but simply can not be found for sale?

Of course, this could include grade-rarities, which can be near-impossible to find, like an 1887 25c in grades above MS-63,or NFLD 1873 5c Obverse #1 in grades above VF, as examples).

If you have a unique item, that nobody else wants (remember that guy trying to promote/sell his 1977 flip strike penny...), then it is not rare. If everyone wants one, but none are ever to be found, then it is rare...

Well, it would be a rarity in that tier, but I would like to get my hands on a 2000P cent.

Conflicting reports on that penny Smallcentguy. Some say it doesn't exist.

Here is my offer! I will fly Danlos and SPP-Ottawa into Toronto for the coin show later this month.
I will then take them out for drinks on me at the bar of their choice.
After 5 or 6 drinks my special guest star ref will make an appearance sporting a ICCS hat (glenzy).
The battle is on! Who will win?

On the 2000P cent, I can't say I have ever seen one or even seen a picture of one.

On the second point, if you are referring to a drinking competition I can only make a bit of a guess, but I think I would be backing SPP!

Ummm, I would much rather have a proven ultra-rare 100 year old coin from 1911, than a 2000P "unicorn" ...

WOW! => danlos vs SPP-Ottawa => Numismatic's version of the Thrilla in Manilla!

It's awesome to see that you two dudes have that kind of passion for the ol' coin-game ! (good on ya!)

I certainly hope that you didn't offend anyone. The death of the Canadian Coin Reference Site was brought about by people with thin skins. This site is really thriving, in large part because the web master is (apparently) not a control freak and lets people speak their mind. Let's all agree to accept jokes and criticism in a constructive way!

I would say person here, not people. But that is something that does not need to be reiterated here.

...and darryldarryl, I am a geologist, 5-6 drinks for me is simply pulling up to the starting line...
