Sometimes I get lost in the beauty of the coins. So far I have been held in check not paying extra premiums for gold and silver. However I really like this one. Canada 2008 50 Cents Gold 1/25 oz Proof ONLY $96.49 Edited by mkfarm 10/18/2011 10:03 pm

I know it's a lot of money to put out and we sure have lost a high percentage of the older collecters. The only real reason to coin collect, is the love for something exciting or a valueable piece of art. It is what makes us happy. The coin in mention has great art appeal. I bought one of the first ones and am glad I did. We all have all spent 100 dollars in far worse way's. Go for it.

I'm not a coin collector that is my problem. All bullion is bought on a best cost basis. However that doesn't mean I don't like the art work and beauty of coins. However I just found this series and I really love this and the other 50 cent gold coins. I risk becoming a coin collector.

That's not a bad design for a coin. Simple and not busy. Talespin, anyone?

The fun of a hobby is collecting what we like - in another hobby of mine I have one of the most common items there is sitting next to a very rare one. Why? I like the looks of the common one so much that I do not care the dollar value. To me it deserves as good a "seat" on my display shelves as the rare item.

seen the coin in person before. Beautiful, but 1/25oz is just too small for me. Already have to strain to see the thing

"I'm not a coin collector that is my problem." If you like them, and also can see the potential of Pm/numismatic value for a bonus, what is stopping ya, as you only live once? I was real shy an never spoke much early on until I got to know you well. Then one day in my early teens I decided to smile an be real friendly an outgoing as I was anyway when I got to know you, so why waste time, and it has served me well ever since. Once I realized the potential of solid communication, the golden rule, etc.... My point is, sometimes change (even for humans, as set in their ways as they are) is good.... I do like that gold coin a lot, right up my alley, but like Poboxw, minus my glasses I struggle to just enjoy the design on a coin that small. Nothing like a quarter or half oz. gold coin in hand....

Just how small is that coin?

At 1/25th of an oz, that is got to be about 1/2 the size of a US dime... which is a very small coin. While such coins can be attractive, the premium on it is sky high... over $2400 per oz. of gold. Maybe that is why it has an airplane on it? I can see buying it as a collectible that you enjoy having and looking at from time to time. If it makes you happy, though, then by all means, get one.

Seaplanes are cool. The only thing that has kept me from buying Canadian issues is Queen Elizabeth. I don't agree with having a monarchy in a modern day democracy, and especially in British "territories". How about a nice baby seal or something, eh?

:) Well we have presidents even if they are dead. I don't have one single issue with who is on a coin as long as it is silver or gold and has a low premium. America struggle with what to put on the first stamps and choose Washington and Franklin because we did not have the monarchs that Europe did so we did the next best thing. I don't know much about the history of US coins. But somewhere along the history they felt they needed the presidents add to them.

I can't see paying the 30% premium on these 1/25 gold coins.

Quote: I don't agree with having a monarchy in a modern day democracy, and especially in British "territories". That part doesn't especially bother me. QE II is a symbol of the past. The Brits love tradition and seem to either hold their royalty in high esteem or view them as entertainment; much as we in the US view Hollywood people. The monarchy, as it exists today, is just a figurehead; a reminder of a greater past, if you will.
