Was hard to choose .. but very interesting. I collect ASE ... I am thinking of ordering four sets I am also thinking of having a set slabbed. Not sure I know all the details of having the set slabbed/graded. If I remember right, to have the 20th aniversary set graded it had to be sent in .. in it's unopened mint shipping box. So I am thinking I will have to have two orders, one single order and the others that I will open. Then I worry about how hard it will be to even get one order in. I am thinking that the Lincoln C&C set was 50,000 with one per order. So 50,000 orders. With this set at 100,000, but up to 5 per order I am thinking there will be much less than 50,000 orders. So gettting one order in might be all I hope to get. My plan will be to order 3 or 4 sets. Then try to order one other set to be shipped in it's own box .. to be slabbed

I was unable to get the set in 2006, and have regretted not getting it! And with the asking price for the set at nearly $700.00 it is far too much for me now. So the 2011 FIVE coin Silver Anniversary set is a much more reasonable alternative, I get the reverse proof that I have coveted from the 2006 set, Plus an added bonus of a San Francisco Mint Marked Eagle. And another 3 coins! Fat Fruit Frolic Scrambled Eggs with green chili sauce (chili verde)

JB, Goldrush and Coin bring up some food for thought, that I didn't think about. Quote: If I remember right, to have the 20th aniversary set graded it had to be sent in .. in it's unopened mint shipping box If this is the case...... then I won't be able to get them slabbed. Because I'm just trying for "one" order with two Sets. And I want to keep one set in O.G.P. I thought this would be "my" choice to think about, whether I actually had both Sets graded or not. Now I have a real quandry here. If I have each individual coin from "the Set" in a slab.....I'll never really feel like I have "the Set" you know ? And I'm not busting em' out of the slab to put in an Eagle Dansco or anything ! Quote: And with the asking price for the set at nearly $700.00 it is far too much for me now Is that "raw" Coin ? I thought someone told me this Set could be had for $250.00 or so (which I was very disappointed to hear ~~even though " I " don't have it either!) I WILL HAVE TO TRY THESE ! .......... Quote: Scrambled Eggs with green chili sauce (chili verde) Most definitely. All this egg talk. I do believe I will be having huevos rancheros for lunch today (FYI, the eggs are fried, not scrambled). I would not worry about getting this set graded. If history repeats, the exclusive coins will still be worth a substantial premium in the future.

Could someone lay this out plain and simple for me ?
What was the original issue Mint price of the 2006 Set ?
What is the "raw" 2006 Set average price NOW ?
(not talking anything "slabbed")
Do any "slabbers" think they would like to keep one in O.G.P. ? I need to figure out a way to do "both". And accomplish this without risking my desire to have "two" of the Sets. Years from now, I would like to be able to grab this beautiful little felt case containing the 5 stunning Eagles, open it, and appreciate their luster and shine whenever I want to, just like when I received it.
I remain "tempted" to have both Sets slabbed.....and pretty much for sure I will send "one" off, if I'm able to do so.
Maybe.... (still assuming I'll be able to even "get" my order in) I should wait until somebody else who ordered two or more Sets opens "their" box, and see how it's packed. Whether or not they're individually sealed ? Then, based on that, I will have made my decision on what to do.

I'm thinking I'd like to do something similar. If I want these slabbed, do I have to have them shipped directly to the TPG from the mint? Can I have them shipped to me, then send them to NGC? Can I open them and look at them first to decide which I want to send in, or if I want to send in more than one?

Yes......short answer ! And there "is" precedence for it. The 2006 3 coin ASE Reverse Proof Set. They minted 250,000 of these. Coinaholic said that this 2006 Set is now going for $700.00. Though I don't know what the original issue price for this was.......I do know that it was NOWHERE near THAT ! The 2011 5 coin ASE Set has a new reverse proof as well, but also San Fran. mintmarked Eagles. And they're only minting 100,000 of "these" Sets. So, despite not knowing the price upon release of this new 2011 Set.....we're all betting that it will be "one to have". For both "collectors" AND "profiteers". There will be a "desire" for this Set. Coin companies will gobble up quite a few to re-sale to consumers. ebay sellers will sell at the highest price auctions will take them, and no one knows how high that will be. And as far as "the long haul"......it still should be "special" for many decades.........price-wise.....still hard to say....but many guess....yes.....it will be nice.

The easy answer, eaglefoot, is to separate your order into two orders, one to open to enjoy in it's OGP, the other to be sent sealed sight unseen to the TPG to be slabbed. The sight unseen slabbing I find questionable as there is no guarantee of getting the exact same coins that were in your box, unless there is a sophisticated tracking system in place for hundreds, if not thousands of identical coins coming into the TPG all at once. I surmise that the most prolific and the most important customers of a TPG will get the lion's share of MS & PR70s, regardless if they send in 1 or a 1000 sets, while the rest of the occasional and one-time submitters will get 69s and below. I believe I heard a rumor of this sort concerning the 2010 5oz ATB bullion coins, which if true, is ethically troubling. This is one of the reasons why I eschew slabbing for modern coins because of the price inflation of "70s" and the greater percentage of MS & PR70s going to the most prolific customers that continue to support the TPG's bottom line.

Now that there is a price, 4 sets. One to keep, the other three to resell eventually. $299.95 is not so bad considering the W-uncirculated and W-proof is at $50.95 and $58.95 respectively, and the bullion coin is about $34-$35 based on today's closing spot price. So that leaves about $155 for the two unique coins and they will no doubt cost way more than $77.50 each on the secondary market from the get-go. A win-win.

Eaglefoot, I did a quick search on it prior to posting and the price was $675.00 and up buy it now on ebay. Using a more advanced search got me into the $399.00 bin.

$305.00 Bucks with shipping ?That's not bad at all ! " Two seperate orders" though.........MAN ! ....... I'm not confident if I'll even be lucky enough to get through one time, let alone TWO ! Ha Ha Lol ... I may run the risk of only being able to get "one" Set, if I come back in again and they're sold out already by the time I get through ! .... I suspect they'll be available for a couple/few days before they sell out..........but it ACTUALLY COULD BE 3 OR 4 HOURS TOO ! Don't know if I want to chance it ..... If I just go ahead order my two Sets...and have that secured......then I can just wait and decide what to do with them later (without opening them !) And I'm still not 100% sure exactly "how" they'll be packaged when shipped......is it at least possible that they'll be individually packaged and sealed inside there ? Not likely ? I'm not sure one way or the other. I'm also NOT a slabber........only done it once and that was just recently. So I don't really know the protocal or the history with other/similar materials. What you do....what you DON'T do.....etc. etc. I'm listening & learning quite eagerly to you all with this "situation". (I wish I could just order my two Sets.....get back in there and order one more Set to keep O.G.P...........but sadly THREE Sets just is not affordable at all for me.....Heck even the two I want isn't really affordable !)
