Buddy Rest in Peace United States 7075 Posts	Posted 10/23/2011 10:13 pm I think the 'B' looks a little thick on the bottom right as well as what you pointed out. I also think Lincoln's beard looks like it has a bit more up-sweep to it than the coin in the Coin Facts photo. I don't know -- so wait for an expert opinion -- but I think this could be Machine Doubling or just a die variation. I think you would have to see more than a couple of photos to know for sure. Buddy Rest in Peace United States 7075 Posts	Posted 10/23/2011 10:59 pm Okay -- it took me awhile to see the 's' but I see it. The thing is that with a coin this old just about anything could have happened. It looks like it has been flattened from pressure or weight --- and then again it doesn't seem damaged aside from some normal wear. It's a keeper, I just wish I knew more about pennies. I have looked at some more penny photos, but yours is unique. That beard is odd. It could just be the result of an old and worn die. It is fun to learn about these things but it gets a little frustrating after awhile. Report this Post to the Staff
