I think the 'B' looks a little thick on the bottom right as well as what you pointed out. I also think Lincoln's beard looks like it has a bit more up-sweep to it than the coin in the Coin Facts photo. I don't know -- so wait for an expert opinion -- but I think this could be Machine Doubling or just a die variation. I think you would have to see more than a couple of photos to know for sure. Have you checked to see if it is a die variation?

Ive looked through all the books I have here and theres no reference to this.

The only info I can find is double profile and double 9 for this date.

but when I look at the coin its not there so its an optical illusion.

Okay -- it took me awhile to see the 's' but I see it. The thing is that with a coin this old just about anything could have happened. It looks like it has been flattened from pressure or weight --- and then again it doesn't seem damaged aside from some normal wear.

It's a keeper, I just wish I knew more about pennies.

I have looked at some more penny photos, but yours is unique. That beard is odd. It could just be the result of an old and worn die.

It is fun to learn about these things but it gets a little frustrating after awhile.
