I am still working on my ghetto coin shooting skills with my cutout box and webcam. I decided to change to a black background and I also changed the software. Seems like I have a marginal improvement.

This is a snapshot of a United Kingdom one pound coin. Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse. A leak and a coronet on the reverse representing Wales. There is writing on the edge of the coin which I haven't taken a snap of. PLEIDIOL WYF I'm GWLAD ("True am I to my country" -- from the chorus of the Welsh National Anthem)

I like your getto thing. I don't have time to go back and see where you started from..coin as a decent representation, but a bit overt lighted. so the details of a worn coin are washed out..Either back the lighting out, so when you shoot you get the pic of the coin you see or use some program to get some more "contrast" on your pic which will bring out the shadows or details of your coin..I did a quick contrast adjustment

Progress-Continues!just a minor thing to think about..Lighting..

This photo was taken in the kitchen with both lights on. The coin is also very bright and pale naturally. I had somewhat of a hard time taking the photo. Yes, I realize the lighting is off and that is one of the hardest things to adjust.

Here is what another circulated version looks like.

Are you raising the coin above the background? I use small pieces of cut cork to bring the coin up off the background, that way the depth of filed I choose will blur out the background, loosing distracting marks and bits of dust and fluff that usually is around due to having cats in the house!

I find it harder to raise up a large slab as the cork will show throgh the holder sometimes, bit of a job to posistion it just right, but it pays off in the long run.
