I never went to coin shows until I got into filling in on e-bay then went to a few local shows and have to say, if you are looking to fill especially low end the nice part is you go home with it.A local dealer, no store, sells decent grade common older coins with a 50% off trends, conservative grader. We would be happy with a conservative grade and then, no tax most times,no shipping,a big factor on low end single purchases, and then usually a small extra bonus on multiple purchases. Great value, and you get a fun feel of the hunt for that coin that you find just laying there for a buck or two, good fun.I found a better understanding of the hobby by 'being there'if you get the chance do any show, you will have a blast.

yes, it must be extremely nice living near large centres that have coin shows ... sadly, the only coin shows we get up here are our Friday afternoon poker-pots.

Quote: I plan on being there Sat. I am looking to add an interesting penny or two. But if you want common date quarters/dimes at melt or common nickels/small cents for next to nothing, let me know. I am trying to get rid of this stuff.....have way too much. I have extras of all the non key cents, most nickels, dimes and quarters...... Thanks smallcentsguy...that would be great! I am very interested! See you there.

 Good News, it looks like the demand for Collector coins is returning. The price realized for Torex (Session #2) are the highest I've seen in quite some years. Now I feel we will see some beauties coming out of the woodwork. Glenn

Well glenzy1, I know that I certainly brought-up the average! => sadly, I was spending cash last night like a drunken sailor! (oh well, I managed to get a couple of items that I really wanted, so it's all good, right?)
Man, those on-line auctions are a bit dangerous for me ... maybe they should make the bid-button a bit harder to find?! ... it was a bit like playing Whack-a-mole at the fair => everytime the bid sign appeared, I'd click the button trying to beat my high-score!
; )

Thanks everyone. I went...came back $130 poorer (a lot for a small timer)...but it was worth it, got more than I was looking for for a good price. I'll be back.

Glenzy1, I noticed the same thing. The auction highlights actually sold this time around. Could it be that Charles Moore has attracted a lot of American buyers to the sale? I mean c'mon, the PCGS 1913 Broad Leaves in MS-65 sold for over $50k... any thoughts on this?

I noticed that prices were much stronger at the auction. None of my lowball bids won.
I won lot 2950, a 1947 Curved Right 7 50 cents in ICCS MS-63.

Nice ...
Ummm, not a 1947 "Maple Leaf" Curved 7 50 cents in ICCS MS-63, was it? (because that is my illusive $10,000 unicorn-coin)=> it's the only hole left to fill in my 50 cent piece album (I seldom see it available, and if I ever do see it for sale I usually don't have an extra $10,000 lying around to spend on coins!) ...
... but "Maple Leaf" or not, I'm glad to hear that you bought yourself a nice coin!

 Kitkat, several months ago prior to this Fall's Torex, I spoke to a well known Canadian coin dealer. He stated that his high end inventory is starting to move. When I questioned him , "Why the sudden change in this buying trend?" He stated that long time "high end" investors of the stock and bullion market are looking into the RARE coin market and making purchases like never before. Investors are nervous about the World situation especially how things are going in the European market and with countries like Italy/Greece on the verge of financial bankruptcy, it could lead to an eventual crash in stocks and gold/silver prices. However, I was told by this dealer that high end investors are not only looking at diversifying their portfolio's, they feel that there is a lot of potential in the Canadian coin market since our earlier mintages are soo brutally low. If you haven't already grabbed the Key's you've been looking for, now is the time to put a rush on it. Wait till you see the upcoming Heritage Auction, I feel we will see record prices being set on this for Canadian coins. European and U.S. investors/collectors are getting in on the low mintage Canadian Decimal phenomenon! Glenn

Anyone know what the 1859 brass hammer price was?

SPP-Ottawa => 1859, Narrow 9, ICCS Fine-12 ("Brass")?
If this is the coin you're referring to, then it looks like it went for $18,000 + the fees => $21,000
... ummmm, I didn't buy it

Thanks for a quick response. One more question: what was the 1969 dollar error (struck on silver 50c planchet) hammer?
