Hello everyone, I hope I was right in reporting this as a fraud on ebay, but I'd feel better if share your thoughts. I won't post the link because my last thread with an ebay link was deleted: Gilboy lists this "normal N" variant as rare. I've got serious doubts about it. Please comment!

One additional clue: this seller also has a Portuguese counterstamped 8R! These are definitely FOTM in the counterfeit world right now!

Yup, fake. Not particularly convincing.

Yes, definitely you are correct to report that fake 8R.

Yet another clue: a private auction. Unfortunately it's already been bid up to almost $40 by three bids. Please report it, too!
I suppose in some ways it is flattering to see so many fake "dos mundos" coins, but moreover it is really sad that people are using this timeless design to attract and dupe those who are not in an educated position. At least for the somewhat more common dos mundos (those within the grasp of the casual collector), it probably reduces prices and demand for the real coins somewhat. I believe the numismatic forgeries are bad for everybody, the serious collector included.
Would someone please estimate the current market value of a genuine VF/XF 1755 Guatemala 8R with average strike and eye appeal and original or lightly cleaned surfaces? The real McCoy is certainly a very desirable thing and stunning to behold.

There are so many fakes appearing since two weeks - I stopped reporting ... Sometime they get removed, other times I get a message telling that they were sent to the watch groups and I then have no news. Is anyone from the world forum here in the coin community watch group ? I posted some hard to see fake ones - and someone specialized in US coins (or not specialized in those) won't be helpful to discard these fakes ...

The issue is that they are too many fake reales - and they are becoming better and better. And before being counterfeit, there is also many different kinds and ancient fakes which are collectable ... it's not an easy issue. I with there would be a rating on ebay, (or + / - ... or whatever they like) - in order to give visible opinion about items on sale (maybe available to selected members, or those with enough ratings in a particular section corresponding to the item they want to rate).

Since I have posted the Mexico Pillar Dollar with Portuguese counterstamp a few days ago, I have found basically a DATE RUN of early Pillar 8R of Mexico on German ebay. They sell between 2 (yes, two) and 100 euro (no kidding!).
