This is my latest. I started another set of Morgans, and decided to do this one a little different than in the past.....decided to collect one mint at a time, beginning at 1878 and coming forward.....started with the ones from the New Orleans Mint (1878 through 1904) completed that, and am now on the Morgans from the Philadelphia Mint (1878 through 1921). After Philadelphia, I'll start on the coins from the San Francisco Mint (1878 through 1921). Behind that, I'll start on the coins from the Carson City Mint 1878 through 1885 - 1889 through 1893). Gonna take awhile, but I'll get there (eventually).   |

Does this make set #5, Ralph? Wowzer.  I received 2 more Buffalo nickels this week. So far, every nickel in my set has a full date and mint mark. It is beginning to get tough now that I'm beginning to zero in on the key dates. Speaking of which, here is the 1921-S, freshly cracked out of its ANACS slab:   The seller accepted my offer of $110, and I had $38 ebay bucks to put toward it too. I think $72 is a really good price for a 21-S with a full date. However, I'm surprised that this coin didn't get a details grade because of that scratch on the reverse. It didn't appear that prominent in the original auction photos, but I can live with it at the price I paid. I would rather have a full date with the scratch than a partial date without the scratch. Have you considered perhaps starting a separate thread on this 5th set and updating it with each new Morgan that gets added? It would be cool to see this set form from birth to completion. Quote:

I'm no expert on lamination errors, but something about this "scratch" just didn't make sense to me. Of course, there could always be someone who just likes to cut gouges into coins, but I won't think about that. In the end, though, I know that scratches come with the territory on coins that did their job circulating. Edited by Darth Morgan

Just picked up this off centre punch Lincoln. Not really into error coins so I might give to my grandaughter who collects coins or keep it as a novelty. For $7.00 though, I figured I couldn't go too wrong.   |

Holy Cow Gyrene! Toning doesn't get much more spectacular than that blood red Carson City. It seriously looks like somebody killed for that coin. Very nice coins.

Decide to start working on a US type set finally. It all started with picking this beauty of a strike up: 1913 Type 1   Along with an XF 1864 2 Cente, 1865 Nickle 3 cent in XF, MS 1913 LWC, 1941 S Merc with light rainbow toning, 1954 ProofRoosie with Rainbow toning oh and a 1892 Barber dime in MS (Have yet to upload pics of the last batch) |

I will take a coin in EF condition any day! I don't want to pay high premium for uncirculated coin. Sometimes the difference between EF and UNC. is thousands of bucks. The 1913 Buffalo is really nice. If I could get a Buffalo collection all like that I would be pretty happy. Rather than look and look for the perfect coin I will take the extra fine one.
