The coin is an alloy of silver, gold and copper. http://rickspedigreecoins.blogspot....ns-1879.html I've wondered if this coin is a candidate for breakout and conservation with NGC. That would possibly restore some original color and luster, but as with most things... it is likely best to leave it as-is. It's currently in an old green holder from PCGS. Opinions welcome...
