*awkward* ... sure, it is quite close, but even if I follow your directions, my measurement is still slightly less on the ol' A-side of the beaver, than it is on the C-side ...

However darryldarryl, I will knuckle-under and give you the Title-belt, for I am beginning to get creeped-out by that beaver (he's giving me the evil-eye!)

Hey, did anybody else have snow in their backyard this morning? (here's my dog Larry ... not looking too impressed)

Wert, great eye. I've searched far too many nickels over the past few years and never even paid attention to the basics! If you look at a 2011 nickel, you will notice that CANADA and the date are more appropriately centered in relation to the rim.

One more thing as if this didn't cause a stink...Look at the opposite side of my 1963 nickel...I always thought the leaves were opposite mirror images of them selves....They are not....!

Really? ... wow, I'm starting to think that Kruger Gray may have been half in the bag when he etched-out that ol' beaver design! (seems like he was shooting from the hip, and merely jotting something down, freehand!?)

... just joking (please don't dog-pile me)

Rest in Peace

Getting back to the topic... stevex6 has the right idea. In the practice of typography there is what is known as "optical" alignment. Because of the different shape of letters it's sometimes necessary to make minor adjustments so the alignment of words will just "look" correct rather than having everything mathematically precise.

Ya, I know SHAFTA9a

I like canuck1us's rendering of the coin, which to me is proof the "Canada" word is misaligned.
