Can't afford it and have to sell a bunch of other coins to keep it, but I just couldn't pass up the opportunity to buy this set when I saw it a few days back. Although the total mintage on any of the 3 coins is not low, there are only 5,000 issued in a set. Apparently very few who bought it offer it back out for sale. Lucky that I had the chance to grab it before the store owner had the chance to call his regulars that were looking for the set :) 1989 Proof Canadian Maple Leaf 1 oz set in gold, silver, and platinum

Very nice indeed! I'd keep it even after I'd died, I'd have it buried with me! lol

Very nice set, I just love the Maples. However as a bullion person I do not get attached to anything if the price for selling is right.

One amazing set there, a once in a lifetime acquisition for sure IMO....
But in the end, we can't take nothing with us, an someone else will enjoy/spend it later. The family an next of kin I imagine will be the proud owner of that set one day, an they will need much help an guidance along their journey getting through the next 75 years or so on this most unforgiving planet. An the constantly increasing value of that set along the way, should be a good piece of mind for your family when ever it may be needed to convert back into currency....

Pretty sweet set! I like the natural wood case. The U.S. Mint case versions are ok (not sure about the Blue 25th ASE Set case)

congrads on the 1000th Fuzzy!
The premium on the set was close to what you'd find for 1/10 - 1/4 oz maples. I still consider myself pretty lucky with this purchase though. A gentleman and his wife were waiting at the cash betting against me while I hopped into the car for my wallet. They've been looking for the same set for quite a while too.
When the day comes when I'm down for the count I just hope I'm lucid enough beforehand to set all my affairs in order first. Intend to pass this set along to which ever of my progeny that will most likely not just turn around and pawn it off.

I'm not really into sets but that is gorgeous! Excellent acquisition. Now, I'm wondering why they did not include a palladium coin in that set. Having all 4 precious metals in one set would be extremely cool.

@SilverBug: J&M no longer have them (they are notorious slow when it comes to updating their inventory list). I called in the summer too and was disappointed, so you must've took their last set! @Ed: Would be neat to see a proof palladium maple, but I've always thought of it as the duller cousin of platinum. I've always just collected 1oz silver rounds and the odd, tiny, gold bars, but just couldn't pass this one up. Would have to shed a few pounds, almost literally, in silver (before the missus notices) to make up for it. @Oh I Hate To Wait: I know it's likely not the focus for many on the forum, but it's so true that they don't make nice presentation boxes anymore. Not the RCM anyways. Even the 1kg silver coins they heavily advertise come in flimsy particle-board-like cases. @vinny et al.: Thanks! I don't get the chance to show off often, and likely won't be able to either until that lottery ticket pays off.

Beautiful set. I just wish that they would stop putting Queen Elizabeth on everything. What did she ever do except be born into a family that robs from the poor? Now the Perth Mint putting Sir Edmund Hillary on a coin was brilliant. Not only did he bravely go where no man had ever successfully gone, afterwards he built hospitals, schools, and orphanages for the people of Tibet. Now that guy should be on some coins. How about the guy that was dying of cancer that walked across Canada to raise money for cancer research? He deserves a coin more than QE.
