Hi All
I am not a coin collector/seller by heart, but I came across a few items. I am looking for information on them before I just toss them. Apparently these have been in the family for awhile, but I have no specifics. Here is a list of 5 items I am looking for info on....
1) A wooden dollar - for "American Service Station"
2) A wooden nickel - for "Rocky Rockholt Old Coins"
3) A wooden nickel - for "Syelte Skim Milk"
4) A encapsulated irradiated 1939 "Mercury Head" dime
4) A encapsulated irradiated 1946 "Roosevelt Head" dime
Thanks if you can provide more details and approximate value. I can provide pictures upon request.

I cannot say much about the wooden nickels, they were typically issued as an advertisement for a local business but carry little value outside of that particular region. The irradiated dimes were souvenirs from the American Museum of Atomic Energy at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Tennessee(the supplier of the nuclear materials for the Manhattan Project). Dimes with a metal encasement were irradiated at the lab in TN while dimes with a plastic encasement were irradiated at the 1964 NY World's Fair. I believe they typically sell for $10-20 but I would recommend checking recently completed auctions on ebay. I own one of each type and IMO, they are very unique items from the Atomic Age. http://www.orau.org/ptp/collection/...es/dimes.htm
Rest in Peace

The wooden nickels would probably be hard to sell -- you have to find the right collector. You could try ebay or better yet, Etsy.com where they sell all kinds of vintage stuff. But please don't toss them. If you have a local historical society, donate them and if they have plenty, donate them to a coin club or give them to a coin dealer. I just hate to think about vintage stuff like that ending up in the trash.

I did a few searches of the names on your wooden nickels and the last one was interesting. Seems there is a Rocky Rockholt that lives in St. Paul who owns the Penny Press Machine Co. Thats the company that makes machines that produce elongated cents. I found further matches to him on a site devoted to elongated cents. Since its an uncommon name and still lives in St Paul I believe its the same person.
