How can I tell if I have a 1926 D Saint Gaudens double Eagle. There is a mark below the DATE but I can't make it out.

If you could scan or photograph the coin as clearly as possible, that would help a lot.

I think the mark below the date is the designer's initials. The mintmark if there is one, should be right above the date.

the Mint Mark on the St Gaudens Double Eagle is ABOVE the date. (I don't have pictures of a 1926 D but here's a 1923 D).

I've learned the Mint mark is located above the Date. Mine is absent of any mint mark, which I learned means it was minted in Philadelphia, too bad it's not a "D" , could been worth a "pretty penny" hey my first pun. And thanks for the replies.
