After watching my delivery date for the 25th Anniversary Set of ASE's keep slipping for the past two weeks, I got an email from the Mint in my Inbox today. Finally I thought.... they are sending me shipping information. NOT! They had "determined" that my order did not meet some arbitrary cutoff time so they were advising me that my order would therefore be cancelled. What a CRAZY way to run a railroad. I now see "speculators" hawking the "in-hand" sets on ebay @ $1200. Something is just wrong with this whole bucket of worms.... OK... I feel better now.... (well maybe just a little)..

Yup, feel bad about that, especially when you see all the stories of folks that got multiple sets using diff cards. Seems totally unfair. I'm guessing you'll be able to EVENTUALLY buy one at a reasonable price.

The mint should have just made them to order. Then the real collectors could have gotten a set for their collection.

sorry to hear that paleoguy (and others who wanted one for their collection) I have no interest in these sets, but I have been reading about the difficulties getting this set. It makes it tough when people get 5 sets themselves and have family friends etc get sets so they can profit off of them. Nothing wrong with profitting and you really can't blame people for trying to get these to sell, but it makes it rough for some of the people who are simply trying to get a set because they like the coins and simply want them in their collection. An ASE collector most likely won't be able to get ahold of this set at a reasonable price and that kind of stinks. People aren't happy having a set or 2, they want to buy 5, 10, or 20 of them...It seems like greed kind of takes over for some people amd ruins the fun for others.

Sounds eerily similar to the silver hockey puck quarter fiasco, if you ask me.
When is the mint going to get their poop together?!

sorry to hear that paleoguy45. i started collecting ASE's a few years ago (have '86-'09 &'06-'08 w's)all in ms69.i let my collection slip and didn't buy this or last years. I was about to order them and found out about the s mint with no mint mark (what a joke) and then read on here about the 25th set and thought about trying to order it.i am glad I didn't. as far as I am concerned the mint can keep them all...i dont plan to ever buy another ASE......i think I will take the money I was going to spend and buy Morgans T J

Quote: The mint should have just made them to order. Then the real collectors could have gotten a set for their collection. I agree. By placing a mintage limit, they created a rarity and a market for this kind of activity.

I'm getting very nervous...my date keeps moving up, daily...now the Mint is stating will ship 11/25/11....I don't understand how they determine the order time...1 order of 4 sets shows as ordered at 4:59 pm...and 1 order of 1 set shows 5:29 pm...all I know is I did what I did well before around 1pm, PST....nothing to do but wait...

Is anyone here plan on buying a set off ebay for the 800$ or 900$? I have been thinking about it but I'm not sure.

IMO, that's too much. Those prices won't hold up. I'm worried about buyer's remorse at the original $299 price point, frankly.
