Looking at this image again, I see something I may have missed. The coin is well circulated, but note the reverse. The weakness on the 11:00 area tells me it is a Cud.

With most of the wing tip missing, it tells me it is a Cud on the obverse. (Always good to re-check)

I would say this one is severe rim damage. If you can get the coin for silver melt, you wouldn't be losing anything to make sure.

I think its a hit to the side of the coin that caused this. I have a PO01 that looks like this as well and its just damage, you should be able to look at the reeded edge and see a flat spot, I am 98% sure this is what happened to this coin

the wing tip is missing from extreme wear, nothing else...the metal has been moved due to metal displacement as Bryan says..
a rim ding from the side...A rim ding can do one of three things. It can be so severe it effects both sides of the coin, yours does not, It can effect the reverse only, yours does not. it can effect the Overse it does on yours...great question
