I'm guessing the date is deliberate, to forestall any possible interpretation of it as a counterfeit.

I'm glad they decided to downsize the Lincoln by 1909....I would have needed bigger pockets

Not suprising, considering something as innocuous as coin glass was once ruled to be illegal as well.

I think it was an "03"...turned into a "08"....definitely counterfeit...
