I'm leaning to MS 62 with a chance at 63.

My gut instinct says 61. Obverse is pretty "baggy" compared to the reverse.

63! I've seen worse looking 64s. How'd we do?

Still deciding on which TPG since the 89CC is obviously cleaned and from what I read in the forum PCGS won't slab it and I want them all in the same slabs.

PCGS will slab it in a "Genuine" holder, without a grade. NGC/ANACS would probably put a Net grade on their holders, but that would be the only difference. And someone who's in the market for an 1889-CC is going to know how to grade it, anyway; if future resale is any consideration whatsoever, PCGS is the way to go. As regards this one: If the darker "scratches" on the cheek are less-prominent in-hand (and I think that's the case), it's a lock for 63 and likely 64. 83-CC is common in 63/64, and a TPG won't hesitate to hand the grade out.

I think this is a MS-62+. I was looking at PCGS website and they say that they will put the details grade on the holder but it is not the default option like some of the other grading companies so you will have to check that box on the submission form.

MS61/62 too much baggage on rim area and eye appeal isn't the best.....

I think SD is correct, most times these blown up pictures are over the top in magnifying small mole hill defects into mountains...I wouldn't send it in to a TPG for this coin as the cost only subtracts from the money paid and grading costs,, better to have this one raw..MS63 .unless its a good VAM...

While the obverse has what appears to have many scratches, small gouges, bag marks, not to mention the obvious wear on Anna's face the wear around the ear, which is Not a weak strike, I see the wear basically on the cotton leaves, the stalks, the cap and also below the ear on the hair locks to well below the ear, While the reverse has apparently less visible wear, on the right wing tip, the eagles chest and the wreaths leaves over all, In MY opinion the coin is also marked up and spotty with those dark black spots, I feel this coin, on a good day would be graded between a MS 61 and 62,at best, just my opinion......

Quote: better to have this one raw..MS63 .unless its a good VAM Believe it's a VAM-5A which is R-5. Having just recently discovered VAMs, realistically, what does this add to the value of the coin?

MD, if you are seeing wear, it is AU, not MS
I do not think that is wear and put it at MS 63 myself, but the hair over ear is weak strike looking for a CC.

this looks like a MS-62 to me. Not sure where SuperDave see's a 1889-CC Morgan nor do I see what he sees as being a problem, I am guessing he is in the wrong thread. I see no reason to have a MS-62 1883-CC Morgan graded by PCGS over the other 2 mentioned because that is one of the Carson City Morgans with the highest survival rate and the prices reflect that. EditI now see SuperDave was answering a question instead of commenting on the coin in the first post
