I just bought this one this morning. I'll dump some junk silver to ease the pain, but I think I bought it at a tiny fraction of it's value. Checking out some that heritage has sold that were slabbed by NGC and PCGS, I believe this will qualify for full head designation....what do you think? The following is copied from a completed heritage auction listing. "1920-S 25C MS63 Full Head NGC. This is arguably one of the most important Standing Liberty quarter dollars in the present offering. In the third edition of his reference Standing Liberty quarters, author Jay Cline stated that the 1920-S is very rare with full head details, and boldly suggested that it should be the second or third most valuable quarter in the entire Standing Liberty series." Numismedia lists the 1920-S FH at 1758.00 in AU-50. The coin in the auction listing quoted above, brought $5750.00 Look at those toes! Chance Edited by Chancellor Sutler 11/18/2011 10:34 am

The seller atates that it's been in an album for a very long time, accounting for the toning. I think it's a monster strike. In the end analysis, it will have cost me a half a dozen common date morgans in AU. In his book, Cline says that fewer than 5% of the San Francisco minted 1920 Standing Liberty quarters were fully struck. This will oust that 1929-S from my type set, but I still need a nice type 1. Looks like there is possible light friction on high points (right knee, date digits and pedestal, eagle's head and wing edge) which could keep it down to AU-58. Luster is also hard to see under the deep original toning.
I'd love to see a sharp close-up of the head but it does appear to meet FH criteria: three sprigs (leaves) distinct, ear hole present, and edge of hair defined from forehead to neck. Overall looks like a solid candidate for PCGS AU-58 FH. Beautiful valuable coin Sir! Congrats.

It's funny ... this was one of those "or best offer" listings, and I'll always make an offer just in case the seller has it set up to automatically accept an offer above a certain point.
I made the offer, not far under the asking price, and it ate at me for 30 minutes. I finally reasoned that losing the coin over 25 dollars wasn't worth it, so I pulled the trigger to ease my own anxiety. I would have been mad at myself had somebody bought it while the seller was pondering the offer.
I'll take some good macro pictures of the head detail when this one arrives.

Oh, that's glorious. A fully-struck SLQ is, in my opinion, one of the two or three most beautiful coins ever minted in the US. If you got that thing for $500-ish, you need to play the lottery.

Toning is subjective to the possessor, not a big fan, I prefer Blast White, but it is an awfully strong strike! And a terrific buy too! I would definitely curious what the TPG'ers say.

I got this coin in this morning, and I'm quite happy with it. I don't believe it would make full head though. It's really close....but I'm thinking "no cigar". Luster is strong under the toning and the cartwheel effect is quite dramatic. Still working on getting this dime store camera to take pictures that don't make the coins look like the flintstones carved them out using that stupid bird. The coin looks great in hand, not so grand in the pictures I've taken. I have some pressing things to take care of, so I'll get back to this later and try to post better pics. This one shows the luster a bit better. Chance
