British-Coins

First one (crown 1935) is fake right? (no edge lettering, reeded edge )
Second one, what is it? Is it just plated coin? There is also outline of Georges head on reverse.

A quick search on google leads me to agree that hte 1935 Crown is a fake since it is supposed to have edge lettering with suggestion that some fakes will stick to a magnet which should not happen with a silver coin.

Penny does not look Bronze to me.

Hopefully others who know more can give more information.

The crown, is unfortunately an undoubted fake.

As suggested, the penny just looks as if its has been plated. you can see the copper colour coming through where its' worn through in the center of the obv.

This is called "ghosting", and is commonly seen on British large bronze pennies, particularly Edward VII and George V. If the coin actually were made of silver, I doubt the ghosting would be present.

mostly they're results of "experiments". Some hefty creative people plate, drill, paint, cut coins to make them "look" better or pass them to ignorant collectors or people. So, indeed it may be a result of a trick, making it appear like silver to fool buyers. Any decent merchant back in the day, should definitely detect that it's not silver at all, but an ordinary person can not perhaps

I had no idea fakes were made of these crown types. I'll check all of mine this week. Thanks for the tip. What other tips might you have for detecting fake British coins?
