Slight tangent here, I apologize, but, I need to find 5 plastic capsules for my 25th Ann. Eagles where they were chipped in transit(Thank Goodness they did their job, protecting the loose coins from a severe blow to box..that's pretty hard plastic on these, it must have been serious--coins OK)..what exactly are these capsules called, and, can I order through someone like Coin Wizard? I want to make sure I get the EXACT capsule as used by the mint please. As far as prices on the sets, they seem to have peaked, and are stabilizing a bit...the Dealers at Santa Clara wouldn't buy any of these sealed sets, except at ridiculous low prices...sales seem to be to the public, and, individuals who missed out...I'd say roughly 16 of my 20 Eagles are MS/PF 69's, and, perhaps 4 are possible 70's...no reverse proof is pristine, all have scuffing near SILVER, reverse...1 a tad on shield...S-Mint coins look really nice...I like those the best...another tangent, from another post I did...did anyone get reverse proofs with frosting overlay onto their letters, like 2 of mine did? It makes for a very unique look on the letters, with perimeter frosting lines all around..very cool look..it's also landed on the edges of the wing-tips, and star perimeters...(a single line of frosting dots)
Calvin
Thanks

The capsules were damaged but not the lacquered box? Interesting. I would imagine you could get capsules from ebay from those that have shipped theirs off to be graded and elect to have the original packaging returned.... or have taken them out and put them in some other kind of holder of their choosing. For instance...

You should be able to buy them from a CCFer after 50 quality posts. The holders that the mint uses are not like the direct-fit Air-Tites at all but specially manufactured for them by a private contractor to their specifications. All of the Mint coin holders have exterior rim flanges on the obverse and reverse, whereas the direct fits are smooth all the way across the face of the holder. IMO, the Air-Tites are the better holder, stackable & has a better seal than the Mint's unique holder. Lots of collectors discard the OGP especially for coins that are to be slabbed, so finding replacement holders shouldn't be that difficult.

Thanks all of you for helping...as long as whatever I get fits in the display box the same way the original does, I'll be happy...when people send their Eagles in to the TPG's, do they take the coins out of the capsule, and into a saflip, or, put the capsuled holder into a saflip too? I swear I saw the guy at Santa Clara at the PCGS booth putting his Eagle capsules from his 25th Ann. sets into the saflip, which makes sense, if I were doing it, I would not want to handle the coin one bit...or, I'd have to wear my cute little cotton gloves I got in my Littleton album..prefer not to open them though
