Still hampered by my lack of a real macro lens. I apologize if I give anyone eyestrain from looking at these pics.

Found this in circulation. The rest of the coin is, sadly, very damaged. Here's the best I can do for a closeup of the mintmark. Looking at pics of regular and inverted mintmarks for this coin... well, my coin doesn't look like either of them. I was just wondering what others thought. I'm thinking it's probably a regular mintmark, but I just can't tell.

In person, my coin still doesn't look like the images of the regular mintmark to me. Doesn't look like the inverted one, either.

Maybe I'll get a video microscope for Christmas

It's because your mintmark is a normal one, but a different style. The inverted mintmark is on a ball serif style mintmark, and yours is a large serif mintmark. There are three styles for 1946.

May I suggest a book in addition to the microscope. Learning a bit more about what you're looking for is more important than being able to take better images of that which you know less.
