Any chance of The Royal Mint starting up public tours again? US Mints still give tours.

All I could ever find out about tours of The Royal Mint is the following:

Conducted tours were discontinued on health, safety and insurance grounds sometime after 1969.

Being an American living in the UK, this above reason of health & safety and insurance is something I hear much too often in this country since what I hear in my ears when this is said "We really can't be bothered anymore to do that so we will use the excuse of health & safety and insurance as the reason".

This is something that is definitely going to happen. There is talk about extending access to The Royal Mint - both to the production areas and to the museum.

I'll share a little known fact with you...we do allow public access to a very small part of The Royal Mint already. There is always something being exhibited in the reception area of the site. Probably not worth planning a trip around, but if you're in the area it's well worth stopping by.

We have just started a Facebook page - it would be helpful if you could post your suggestions there to make them visible. I'll remove the link if promoting offsite links is a no-no.

Thanks for the suggestion Ken!

Interestingly enough, I've got a dealer friend living in the UK and he along with some of his friends very recently been to The Royal Mint and witnessed how the coins were produced, the gold coins (probably on display) and such. I've heard from him that he had some wonderful time. However, his status may be different from an average person, as I assume he's also a distributer of Royal Mint products.
Another thing I've just realized we've got a Royal Mint representative on the forum, which sounds very nice. :) Thanks for that James.

Even I didn't get a tour of the mint. We went to the "museum" and looked at some 50ps, woo, I have all but one of them, so I wasn't that interested, it was really a room with lots of interesting stuff in draws, might be nice to go and have a look through for a while. Didn't get to see any production or anything like that, other than a nice sign at the front that says how many days since the last serious accident, how many days since they last caused a nuclear holocaust etc!

Yes I look at that sign every day on my way through the gates! There's some serious industry behind the scenes...the 'hot end' of the site is a dangerous place indeed.

Thanks for the welcome molydeii! I joined up to offer a little insight into the mysterious world of The Royal Mint!

So on the mysterious side, what is the number exactly on the days since the last nuclear holocaust?
