I rolled up all my copper pennies dated 1970-1982 and nickels 1964, 1970-2011 back into circulation. After collecting them for over a year, I decided hoarding these things is just a waste of time and I'd rather use the money to coin roll hunt for nickels (and maybe dimes and half dollars).

Good idea. I've done the same with all mine. I think I reached a point where I realized it was more work than I wanted to put in to it for the amount of profit that I might or might not make.

Glad to here that you guys came to your senses. I do not think the melt ban will be lifted on copper or nickle. The government would would not stand for the average citizen making a non taxed dollar from their cents and niks.

The melt ban was lifted on silver, so it will be lifted on pennies and nickels eventually.

I am still keeping mine. It does not cost me anything. Of course, my "hoard" is miniscule compared to some of the hoards reported here.

That's a bad idea! Now I have more junk to go through that others don't want.

I'm only keeping wheaties on the penny front. I was keeping pre 60 nickels but now am being selective and only keeping better dates. I'll probably do a roll of each date pre-60.

So far, I don't regret taking my pennies and nickels back to the bank for face value. Instead of having 550 pennies, I was able to turn that into 11 40% Kennedy half dollars that I found in a two day period! I found 7 at one branch, 1 at a second branch, and 3 at third branch. For the time being, I will hold onto my pennies dated 1959-1969 because those may slowly become harder to find in circulation, but if silver takes massive dips in the coming months or whenever, I'll cash them in at face value and buy silver. But yeah, I'd rather have $5.50 in face value of junk silver than $5.50 (550) in face value of copper pennies or 110 nickels.
