No, I didn't find them there. I put them there. I had bought a "lot" of some 85 Indian head culls, and there were 32 of them that were so bad that I trashed them. I suppose I could have filed the edges and put them in bank rolls, but why? They would just end up being in a lot of coins being sold again, and they'd be just as much junk as they were when I got them. Nothing earth shattering, common date corroded, bent and holed junk, so I'm gave them a decent burial. Chance

Unless they were they kind that aren't even the size of a cent anymore, I would have tried to spend them. It would have been an adventure every time. Some kids might have wanted them too. I don't think you should have literally thrown them away.

Future archeologists will use them to unravel the mysteries of "styrofoam age" man. They'll make something up that's really entertaining and far reaching like they always do.
I kept over 50 that were marginal. Some of those will end up in the hands of local youngsters.

IMHO, I think it was wrong to throw them away unless they are totally unidentifiable These coins, at least the ones that are recognizable as IHC, are a part of our history. To destroy them is wrong. There has to be some use for them--perhaps, as hesgut mentioned give them to a youngster--that just might be the incentive to start him/her into coin collecting.

My idea would be to turn them into an interesting piece of jewerly, such as a bracelet for you wife/girlfriend that would be unique. Wouldn't be hard to do, or take them to someone taking a jewelery making class at leisure learning or Jr. College courses and let them make a bracelet for you, they would gain the experience and you would have something unique.

I get the feeling that they were so bad we would have done something similar...

I would have just given them to some kid. Regardless of how bad they are, most kids don't care. To the really young ones a coin is a coin. They are all valuable.

or use them in change. For that matter, I would have given you atleast face value for them.

Probably the most "drastic" thing I would have done is just spent them, but not throw them away in the trash.

I wouldn't mind keeping IHC coins that were holed, worn flat, stretched, bent, or pitted. The only thing I can't stand is a coin that is completely green and corroded. Even then I wouldn't have thrown them out, I'd take em to the bank along with a large lot of normal lincolns and let them figure it out.

Hummm....you should have at least spent them. Sometimes coins like this are enough to perk a new collector when they get it back in change.

Yeah I don't agree with throwing them away. You could have put them in bank wrapped rolls, exchange the coins for cash, and use it to buy silver or something. That Two-cent piece that I found three days ago was nearly thrown away probably by somebody thinking the same thing. It's part of our history as a country.
