I avidly save the Lincoln copper cents from circulation and have thousands of them. I wanted to start getting some miniature containers to sort them out by year and am trying to think of the best way to do so. I looked into something called Really Useful Boxes sold online, but am not sure those would be the best fit. Would anyone have some suggestions?

simply in a box, they would be loose, would move around and get scratched/worn more. What about getting some plastic coin tubes? You could label the top of each tube, and this would help with storage, organization, and keeping inventory if you wanted to.

Put the coins in 2*2's and then into a 3 ring holder sheet that as 20 2*2 on a page.Put all the sheets into a binder. If you don't want binders then put the 2*2's into special boxs made for the 2*2's, which are 6" or 9" long. All this can be found at a coin store.
Rest in Peace

If you don't want the coins to turn ugly on you they need to be in tubes oer 2X2's.

I bought 4 tackle boxes that have 25+ dividers. I sort all my coins by year and mint into these containers until its each slot is full. Once its close to full I know that it will fill a roll. I pull them out and put them in plastic tubes until they no longer rattle. Then I list them on ebay :P This is the easiest method I found yet and works well when sorting through 5,000 wheats a week.

Sorry, my bad (I have deleted all of my nasty comments regarding keeping your coins loose in a box)

Many years ago I purchased a plastic 60 tray storage unit that is commonly used to hold jewelry or nuts and bolts. I labeled the front of each drawer with a year and mint mark and I toss in my coppers as I sort them. When I get a lot of them in an individual tray, I roll it up and label the year on the outside.

It takes a lot longer to roll sort this way, but for some reason I like organizing my copper pennies.

Lost of methods to do just what your saying.
1. Simply dump them all on a table and hire some kids in the neighborhood to sort them out.
2. Put them all in a small box and send to me. No more problems of sorting them.
3. Don't sort them at all. Just put them all in those plastic tubes and forget about them.
4. Ask all relatives if they collect coins and give to the one that does.
5. Take them all to a bank, get the cash for them, hit the neighbor hood bar and have a good time
6. Check ebay for someone selling a coin date sorting machine.
Good luck and let us know what you decided from my fantastic list.

I use this to sort my pocket change. My box is filled with paper wrappers not tubes.
http://www.jakesmp.net/CSD_Coin_Box...s_003_M.html
I ordered a box of 100 coin tubes which comes in a box
http://www.jakesmp.net/CSD_Coin_Tub...s.003_M.html
and when my paper roll gets filled I compare the coin tube (with my best examples of the year/mint) to my paper roll. Pull out the best examples and refill the coin tube. The poor examples I search for varieties and then cull them. Copper goes into a large glass jar and zinc gets sent to the bank. This seems to work great! Keeps me organized and I then retain a one roll limit on each date and mint mark.

I do the same thing with Nickles but for my dimes and quarters I only use the boxes with paper wrappers. No need to save $1500 in circulated coinage! I only keep the Very very best which usually is only two or three of each date and mint. I fill coin folders with the top circulation finds and any BU coins get put into 2x2's.
