My question is related to transportation of inventory.
Two part question.
If you drive to the show, how do you transport coins? Suitcase, locked container, etc.
If you fly to the show, how? Obviously not checked luggage!
Just looking for safest, most secure method. Thanks.

It tough to give up secrets regarding this. I have never flown to a show, but have driven to more local ones. I always bring enough inventory to start off the show and have several people show during the course of the day with portions of my inventory. This works if you have people you work with that are trustworthy and willing to help. Alot of these people I deal with frequently and would probably attend the show regardless, so it's not too inconvienient for them.

This is a subject I've discussed with many coin dealers (I am not a dealer). An answer I get a lot, which is similar to some of the Anti-Terrorism tactics I learned in the Marine Corps, is not so much what they carry their stock in but how they drive their cars. They've all said that when they drive to/from a show that they always ensure that they are not being followed by taking multiple wrong routes, doubling back on roads, etc...

A lot of dealer theft cases I've heard about involved a dealer LEAVING a coin show and stopping somewhere along the route, which is generally when the theft will occur.

I've heard or read about similar reports more than once I'm afraid.
Having being prior law enforcement, this is exactly what they teach you in the academy, as well as once you are in the field and off duty. Vary your route to and from, be aware of everything around you at all times.
I do this on a regular basis to this day.
I guess I am looking for more answers more tailored toward flying to shows. I have known a couple dealers who did this often. Unfortunately, they are no longer with us and I never asked them :(
I now work for an airline which grants me greater freedom to fly from the West Coast to such shows as FUN and ANA back East, Chicago, etc...thanks!

Non-descript vehicle, unless you go the armored van route. Have containers cabled down in the trunk. Don't leave a vehicle unattended.

Today's concerns would be gps tracking, cell phones and even private aircraft.

I would also label the containers as something undesirable to theives such as, chemical waste ect.
