Can anyone tell me which of those catalogue numbers apply to my coin? I see a lot of coins (including this one) sold as Y159.2 but I am thinking the hairline is too close to the collar and the actual Y159.2 is much more rare. The mint mark also appears to be from 1985, which obviously would make it a Y159.1, but with the picture quality here I would be very impressed if anyone could examine the mint mark Any info would be appreciated!

Ah I wish that could help me! Unfortunately many Thai coins don't show the date when they were actually minted. The coin above says BE2525 (1982) but there were also coins produced with the same date in 1984 and 1985 - and that's not the worst of it; in some cases this went on for many years. For example, the 10 satang coin was produced for thirty years without a date change, so all the coins of that denomination minted between 1957 and 1987 carry a date of BE2500 (1957). The only way to know the difference is an occasional variance in mint marks. Very frustrating place to deal with!

Thanks anyway

Some pics of my mint mark, on the off chance there is someone who hasn't already seen this to whom it is relevant

On the bottom mint mark I can make out 27 so that would make it 2527 (1984).

I think it's the common type Y 159.1. The other type is seen on the later coins BE 2529 (1986) to 2543.
