Looks like the Mint will be releasing these on Jan 10th... The obverse of the $5 gold coin, designed by United States Mint Sculptor-Engraver John Mercanti, depicts Captain John Smith conversing with an American Indian; and the $5 gold reverse, by United States Mint Artistic Infusion Program Master Designer Susan Gamble, pictures the Jamestown Memorial Church - the only remaining structure from the original settlement. I'd echo the silver UNC desire. 400 years is a big anniversary.

I don't think I am going to. There is just way to many coins that the mint s putting out to buy this one. I think I am just going to stick with the Proof sets and Mint sets and Maybe a proof ASE. If I try to buy even half of what the mint does I would be able to buy any coin for what I really like my typr set and older Proof sets. And my circulated coin sets.

Those numbers sound a little rounded to me....possibly those are just the authorized mintage figures. The mint will only make what they can sell...so the actual figures when done should be much lower. 100,000 is too many coins even for an UNC specimen, let alone 500,000. A lot of demand seems to be created for commems with very low mintages - check out the 1996 olympic coins for example.

I plan on buying all four. I am only purchasing this for myself and not as an investment.

I doubt they will sell out even though they will be offered for almost a whole year. I think the gold will have a lower mintage than the SF commemorative of 2006. It all depends on how much interest the public has for Jamestown Settlement 400th Anniversary.
