I first read about eCRATER here on this site and since an alternative to ebay sounded refreshing, I took a look. I thought I would wade in at the shallow end just to test things out. Since I am working on a Mercury dime short set I thought I found a good coin to start with on eCRATER. This photo was shown with the description "brand new"..... I know "brand new" isn't a numismatic grade but I do know what brand new is and what I got in the mail ain't it.... Two emails to the seller have not gotten a response. The seller's feedback rating is "n/a". That makes sense because I can not discover a way to leave any.

Wow, thats horrible. It might just be the wrong coin though, and he might be on vacation if you sent the emails in the last week. I wonder if this guy has an ebay account, LOL.

Looks like a bad deal. Hopefully this eCrater site is not a CCF member. I always check member's sites (eBay, eCrater, CCF) before I buy, that way I know I'm dealing with someone I can trust.

That's totally bogus!
What actions can one take to remedy this type of problem? Did you pay with a CC, perhaps find help from the CC issuer, explain the problem that you received the wrong merchandise and the seller not responding.

Those can not possibly be the same coin. Either the seller shipped the wrong coin by mistake, or you are being cheated.

It ain't me Seriously though, if this guy intentionally sent you that coin under the description "brand new", he should be reported to ecrater immediately and his account closed before there are more victims.

I sell on ecrater so I can help shed some light on this... 1) When you list an item for sale you can check the box that says "used item" or leave it on the default "Brand new" so the seller probably forgot to check the "used item" box 2) N/A feedback A buyer can only leave feedback for a seller if the buyer pays by Paypal immediatly after the order is placed. If you pay the next day or with any other method you can't leave feedback. If you pay with Paypal right after you place the order you will get an email from ecrater asking you to rate the seller. There is a link in that email that you click on to leave feedback. 3) that defenitely is not the same coin as in the original picture.

Thank you for the info, bmanofnbc, To your point (1.... That is an understandable mistake if this is the case. The wrong photo would be too. But not answering two emails is not so easy to excuse. And your point (2.... I had filed the ecrater email and forgotten it but have recovered it and exercised that option. The odd thing is that it still shows "Feedback: n/a" for the seller.

I solve any problems with a Terms of Sale quote. "Coin pictured is the actual coin you will receive" and a unique number given to every coin. Sorry but two emails not answered means two things. No internet access or shady :(

the feedback doesn't seem to show up right away, check back in a day or two.
