Lets say that I want to meet someone in town to evaluate their small collection. Where is a safe, public yet private place where we can sit down and put coins on the table?

I've run into this problem several times, and always feel weird when I'm at a restaurant or library and I pull out a stack of silver and a loupe.

Can someone toss me some fresh ideas?

I like the starbucks inside of a Barns and Noble. It's well lit and there alot of people around. And to be honest most of my meets to evaluate a collection are inside of a McDonalds.

I use my bank, call ahead and see if it's okay with them, can't beat the security!

Your bank should have the space available, and this works well for meeting someone you know, or know through a third party.

As for people you don't know (craigslist ads etc) I opt to meet at a local police station. It minimizes the chances of me being robbed.

1. If you have an account in a bank you could ask an officer of the bank if it's OK to use a desk there for that purpose.
2. Not sure about the flea markets by you but one of them by me has a sort of restaurant area. I've seen people several times doing coin transactions there. Lots of people, lots of lighting, free space.
3. Libraries are OK but you usually have to really keep the noise down. I don't like those places since you don't know who is watching and following you later.
4. If your in a small town there is usually a town hall or city hall. You could ask there if it's ok to use a room for that purpose.
5. Unfortuately not enough coin shows in all areas but if there are any in your area, usually there are some tables where you could sit down and do that.
Rest in Peace

Liberry has easy access to reference material, if needed, often including puters.

Banks have offices, and easy access to cash for purchases.

You've answered your own question. Restaurants and the library are where I go. Why feel weird? If you go to a corner table at a fast food restaurant, just grab a cup of coffee so you feel like a regular patron. One of my favorites is a Baskin Robbins ice cream shop before noon when no one is in the mood for ice cream. I ask the folks if its okay to borrow a table and they are always gracious.
