I'll say 64 or 65 but these things are hard for me to grade so I could be way off

You guys are good. This coin is graded ms64.
Although very, very clean for the grade, the coin suffered from an incomplete strike and thus could not get the 65. Notice how flat the stars are to the right of the portrait as opposed to the well defined stars on the left, this is the result of an uneven pressure on the dies.

That is truly a phenomenal coin!

Although the stars are flat, the strike in the hairlines looks a lot sharper than a lot I've seen. It must've broken your heart to let this one go.

Is that remnants of a fingerprint on the obverse? Or is that on the slab itself? These are my favorite nickels even though they are kind of tough to complete because of the '85 and the '86 but I am bound and determined to do a Fine or better set. I know those two keys will be tough in that grade also as far as money goes but gonna give it a shot anyway. The stars do give it away, that is the first thing I look for since I have been collecting these and practicing my MS grading on them. That and the ear of corn on the reverse.

Irishraider, the lines are most likely too straight to be from fingerprints, but it is a possibility. That was a subject for discussion this coin always brought up, and I don't know that I ever heard a totally satisfactory answer.
SusanLynn, one of these days I will find her again. Old friends have a habit of returning.
