I just received these two coins in the mail from JW. I purchased one and he gave me another. The first one, I know the emperor at least, the second one I know nothing about yet.

Claudius II

New-Roman-Coins

I'm going to be attributing these coins shortly.

What I know about the bottom coin isn't much but I'm going to start from what I know first.

OBVERSE:

I think it's a bust since some of the design is off of the flan and it looks like a AE4. I don't have anything to measure just yet. I see the tie which I think might be a diademed crown. What I can make out of the legend isn't much.

NVS PF AVG

REVERSE:

I can't make out much on this side either. Some of the design is off of the flan. It looks like there could be two soldiers facing towards a standard between them. I can only see part of the legend to the left.

GLOR

I suspect the reverse is GLORIA EXERCITVS. They were minted towards the end of Constantine I's reign and for a few years later.

I'm going to start from there and see what I can do.

I think it's very similar to this coin. Constantine II. I believe it's not a bust but a head now.

I could be wrong, but I don't think it's a Constantine I because I am not coming up with exact legend and device matches. I am also finding a few come close in Constantius II

Unfortunately, I'm also having problems attributing the Claudius II Gothicus Antoninianus as well. I see nothing on Wildwinds or Dirty old coins that matches a goddess facing left with left hand raised high. Not an exact match, anyways.

Use Ctrl+F while on the Wildwinds page and have a look at the coins with Spes on them

As for the second coin your correct about it being GLORIA EXERCITVS.

You need to concentrate on Constantines sons to attribute it.

Does the obverse legend end in 'NVS PF AVG' or 'IVS PF AVG'? This should help you decide between the two.

It looks like NVS PF AVG, but it is really hard to tell and I can't read anything before that part of the legend. I'm pretty sure it's either Constantine II or Constantius II, but leaning more towards Constantine II.

Just say the word and I'll tell you how I attributed both coins. Of course, I could just as easily be wrong.

For the Claudius II Gothicus I found a close match. I looked at this one before but wasn't sure.

Please do and then perhaps I could see what I'm doing wrong. And yeah, I suppose anyone can be wrong. These ancient coins can be very difficult to attribute, I've noticed.

I attributed the Claudius II coin just as you did. RIC 191. As for the other coin, you are on the right track with Constantine II, Gloria Exercitvs. Take a little more time before I post what I thought about it.

Here is another one that I think looks close.

OK, Let me give just one more hint. This came in a lot of uncleaned coins with every one originating from Siscia. Look real close at the mintmark. Perhaps magnify the image and see if there is something you can make out. Again, I could be using my imagination here, but I think I see something.

On Wildwinds, I looked at all the ones from Siscia and those that closely match the design on the reverse do not on the obverse as it says (part of the legend) PF AVG. The coin below says CONSTANTINVS IVN NOB C.

I think the reverse of this one matches closely from Wildwinds.

New-Roman-Coins

The obverse has a different legend.

Constantine II, AE4, Siscia. CONSTANTINVS IVN NOB C, laureate, cuirassed bust right / GLOR-IA EXERC-ITVS, two soldiers holding spears and shields with one standard between them. O on banners. Mintmark: epsilon SIS star. RIC VII Siscia 262.
