I currently use a 150watt florescent clamp on desk lamp to roll search and was wondering what would an LED equivalent be. I mean in color and warmth and wattage.. I know LEDs are normally white and incandescent are yellowish. Also LEDs are rated much lower in wattage so what would the equivalent be? Thanks all,

Wow. I sell that size for outdoor security light usage; it'll light your back yard bright enough to read by it. I've never heard of one being used indoors.

There won't be a single LED remotely approaching that brightness to be found easily. I couldn't imagine putting myself right next to such a level of illumination. That would be about a 30-watt LED. I have 2-100w (equivalent) CFL's in my bathroom; they make the place so bright I need no light in the shower, and the CFL's are around a corner.

As regards color, both CFL's and LED's are available in multiple color temperatures.

Does your arm hair catch on fire and do you get a nice tan on your arms with that light?!

That light must seriously put off some heat, don't think I could take something like that right next to me. I'm not much of a help with this though, I'm getting ready to experiment with multiple LED's myself for photos and visibility while searching/grading coins. For right now I just squint harder.

The Jansjo LED's available from IKEA have a warm color temp similar to incandescent. Much warmer than typical fluorescents. If you get the light within a couple inches of the coin they will give equivalent of a 150W bulb at a few feet away. How close do you get the 150W to your coins? The IR output from the LED's is pretty low as well, lower than the fluorescent, though both are much much lower than incandescents.
