Looks nice for the type, couple hits on the cheek would prevent it from being a MS65. What kind of "slab" is that?

Oooooh. Booming luster. NGC 64, I think.

I'm liking the consensus of 64's on this coin....NGC robbed whoever sent this in to be graded and gave the coin a 62....I picked it up in trade for around 61 money and am considering breaking this one out and submitting elsewhere or just breaking it out and asking MS63 money in trade. ICG will be in town in about 3 months and they typically run a $9 special....plus they'll give me an indication of what the coin would grade.

No way this is a 62. Minimum MS-63 if there are more hits that I am not seeing. Great deal for just 61 money in trade!

It's *conceivable* that the hits on the cheek are nastier in-hand than the images depict. However, the same lighting which shows off the luster so nicely ought also to emphasize the dings. I believe the assigned grade is off the mark.

The hits on the cheek are pretty accurately depicted....I jumped on this one because I felt like it was under graded by at least 1 point if not 2

It looks better than a 62 in the images. Probably an upgrade candidate to a 63.
Whenever I see pics of a coin that look obviously undergraded, there's almost always something seen in-hand to reveal why the lower grade was assigned. That's not to say mistakes aren't made, because they are and this coin certainly looks very, very nice for a 62.

Great luster - little bit of haze on the right field plus some significant marks on the cheek.
I would say MS-63+ but not quite MS-64

Someone definitely got robbed on that one. I was thinking 64 also.

Unless your photos hide an ugly whatever, this one is an easy upgrade to 63 with a shot a 64. Nice pick!

I don't think it would ever go 64 due to all that is going on with that cheek but should be a lock for 63

Okay I just graded it on the pictures before looking at all the responses, I said MS-62, then as I scrolled down uh-oh I was off according to everyone else, then I saw the grade shadowtrooper78 posted the grade. I just sold a few 1880-S NGC coins to Heritage in MS66 both white and lightly toned, they had only tiny ticks on them, none on the face absolutely no scrapes either. I could see this coin being MS63 but probably not 64. Then again, it's always a crap shoot when grading from a 2-D photo only.
