Hi Bobby Judging from the obvious grading markers, cheek ,hair ,rims and triangle above the steps and the steps themselves,, the coin is mint state .
The few dings that I can see except the ones on the cheek and temple are not in focal areas,, My guess is MS-65 and just shy of FS .

To be honest, I graded this coin at MS63. I didn't like the small hit on Monticello and I felt it was large enough to take it out of the 64 grade. The strikes on these are so frustrating! Overall, the coin has a great appearance, though, with some of the nicest luster I've seen on a Jefferson. It's very satiny.

Hi Susan
The only way that I have found to be close on the jeffersons is to look at the Markers,, forget the steps and judge them independant of the rest of the coin,,
for some reason these coins are allowed slight detracting marks even up to MS-67 ,,I think it has to do with the difficulty in striking them and the die wear associated with the harder metals like nickel.
The marks on the cheek and temple are the most distracting on this coin but in the pics they look light . Putting this with an exceptional strike for a 50's jefferson I figured it for 64 and then gave it a little for eye appeal.

what is that by the rim and the E on the reverse on the left top . Some lint or a die crack and if youlook closely at the mintmark it looks like D/S (Not saying that it is)it looks like a ? or something but I don't think the serrif would be correct

You'll notice I never post in Jefferson grading threads. My blood pressure is high enough as it is.

There is a piece of paper lint from the envelope by the E. Sorry, not a die crack. I was not aware of a D/S variety for the 1950 Jefferson. I thought that was the 1949.
