Interesting information. I guess I should stop looking for 1996 WAMs and 1983 Coppers. It sucks that someone very experienced and well known in this small community of collectors would take an advantage of a relative novice. To me it sounds as if he decided to make an immoral decision to make money. He used his reputation and community standing (as alot of politicans/business men do) to con someone. He was trying to make a backdoor deal and mislead someone with lies and deceit to get a better price. The community will judge him and act accordingly.

I am relatively new and if I had found a amazing coin I wouldn't have thought twice about sending it to a few people on this site to get it verified and photographed. I guess this probably changed for me.

Look forward to seeing how this all plays out and would love to hear the Accused's side of the story.

For the record, coppercoins.com has never recognized the existence of a 1983 copper cent because we have never examined one, nor have we seen verifiable images of one. Copper and zinc cents do tend to photograph differently.

Also for the record, the images of the reported 1996 Wide AM cent were of an obvious fake. The seam inside the obverse rim was easy to spot. That the coin disappeared prior to being examined by anyone else who could publicly verify my claim is a shame...a coincidence, but still a shame.

The whole purpose of the thread is to warn you of who not to trust...I wouldn't classify all attributers this way as there are many more good ones than there are bad.
