At first I thought the link was for the 10 (missing/reappered) 1933 Double eagles that are in question before the courts. But that would have said like 77.3 million instead. Very nice article. I can't blame John albanese for offering 5.5 mil for it 3 years ago.
The coin has been certified genuine, what makes the difference if it's au50 or ms63? It's the only one, so it's not like it will sell for more with a different grade on it.
Just watch, tho, if it's offered again in a few years, they'll take it to NGC and get an au53.
I guess 4.4 million isn't bad for a 7 year investment

I doubt we will ever see any of those for sale. The Government could sell them and pay off some of the debt but when its all over they will probably end up destroying them because I really doubt they will make them legal tender so they can sell them after the battle in the courts. Even if they did the price would be nowhere near the price of the first one that sold because instead of 1 there is 10 and as was said in that article there just aren't enough people in the world that have the assets to purchase coins like this to make the prices go that high for 10 coins of the same date/denomination no matter how rare
It would make a HUGE amount of sense for the government to auction them to various dealers who are authorized to buy from the US Mint. Knowing that, I do not see it happening. Somehow, the government always seems to find the worst way of doing just about everything. It's almost like they have to take a class in this or something.
