I like the third one, but depending on what size coin, much of the detail may be lost.

I've seen the real Star Spangled Banner flag in the Smithsonian in Washington DC. The mint can keep the coins. I've seen the real thing with my own eyes.

I always think the line art renditions are misleading, but I am still unimpressed. I could change my mind after seeing them in coin form.

I think the first pic is proposed for the clad half, the second is the gold and the last two for the dollar. Not crazy about the half, but I like both of those dollar designs. Nice version of lady liberty and the flag design is just different... in a good way.

Out of the four, I like the third the best. I have to say though, that the first would be great as a half. It has sailing ships so the grandchildren will like it, and as a clad it'll probably end up selling cheap. Cheap is good when it to keeping the grandkids attention!

I agree. The third one is OK. The other three are lazy attempts. I guess I wouldn't even call them attempts. That would imply effort.....

That would be a really awesome coin design. Good call.

the first 2 are obv/rev of the gold coin, the second 2 are obv/rev of the silver dollar. I like the silver dollar. The gold is Bleah.
Surprised they didn't use any artwork showing the banner as it currently is displayed in DC.

As a native Marylander I love the silver dollar design....the flag is beautiful and the view of Fort McHenry is great. I think the gold may look better in hand, but its not my favorite.
On the other hand, the 2013 national park design candidates for Fort McHenry are disgustingly horrendous.

I like the design of the silver dollar. No design will ever make everyone happy but the one that is being used was recommended by the Citizens Committee so at least the mint is listening to outside opinions.

I would have to say #3.
But, really dissappointed in all designs for such a moment in history. The ships seemed to lack detail, almost looked like a picture out of a comic book. It would hold the attention perhaps of grandkids.
I had expected something much grander.

I find it odd that nowhere on the dollar coin does it mention the star spangled banner. That IS what it's commemorating. Many people wouldn't have any idea that that is what the coin is about. I'd have liked to see a design with F.S. Key gazing at the fort with the flag flying. Not sure I like the design but I'll probably get one. I'm building a commen collection of all the ones relating to the US Gov't.
