So a dealer showed me the Greysheet bid / ask prices on a 1914 D Lincoln Cent in VF:

Bid - $365

Ask - $395

Let's assume the coin is in reasonable VF condition. No signs of cleaning, no damage, and reasonable "beauty."

Questions:

If I take this coin to a dealer, is he gonna offer me $365?

Will he then sell it for $395? Higher?

How the heck does he make a living with only a $30 profit, if he sticks with these prices?

Sounds about right, bid/ask, sometimes there is a greater gap between the two. The 14-D is always in demand, and the prices can vary greatly.

Ask is what he would ask another dealer to pay him...bid is what another dealer should pay him. Reality is dealers pay each other about 10% below bid so he would not pay a customer more than 15% below bid.....if any of that makes any sense.

dealers will probably pay around 25% under bid. keep in mind that these figures are averages as stated that are factored from different sources.

Thanks, boys and girls. :wave

I suspected that for buying from customers, dealers would pay between 15% to maybe even 50% of bid. Depending on many factors.

Ya'll have confirmed it.
