Hi guys I know everyone out there has a far better coin collection than me, BUT, I finally came across a "Double Legend" in my collection...I know, that everyone may not be impressed, but I am excited....

That's interesting wert, thanks for sharing. I assume this is Machine Doubling ? Guess I'll have to dig out my nickels and see if I have one. How tough a find is it, and is it found in other years besides 46 ?

I am not sure if it is " Machine Doubling" or not..Maybe some one with more knowledge that myself could set me straight....I JUST started looking trough my collection after years and years of hiding in a closet...The only thing is I only have a weak magnifier glass to find these things. If I do find more, I will definitely post pictures.

wert, look at the reverse and see if you have a 6/6 variety.

Wert, for a small investment of $20 or so, you may want to invest in a triplet loupe lens, it will make examination and the hunt for varieties that much easier for you.

The doubling on the 1946 and 1950 5c appear to be Die Deterioration Doubling. Worn out dies can develop these pillow-like structures beside the legends & devices. The 1946 example shown is nice one. BTW the so-called 6 over 6 is a misnomer. The name makes it sound like it's caused by a double punch but it is another Die Deterioration Doubling variety. It is cool looking too though.

Hi Scissel You may be right with the 1950, but I have the 1946 in my hand and to me does not look like " Die Deterioration Doubling", it is definitely punched twice if punch is the correct word for it... But remember, I am not as knowledgeable as your self and a lot of people out there....
