I was given all these old coins, and I've been googling like crazy... I'm fascinated, I really don't know much about coins, but they're really like little mini works of art. Anyway, I have a few that stood out to me, this one being one of them. From what I've read today, it seems rare? Is it really *that* rare? How much would something like this be worth?

to CCF Jenny. I see nothing special about your dime other then it's silver. As far as value, it's worth whatever silver value is currently going for. The Uninterrupted band you mentioned probably refers to the Mercury dime. Hope you stick around and feel free to ask anymore questions you may have on the rest of your collection.

With silver at $29.66/oz it is worth about $2.14 in silver

It is not very rare but, because people have been removing silver coins from circulation for a long time, you don't find them often in pocket change.

1964 was the last year silver was put into circulating dimes. you will note the "D" on the back at the bottom of the torch - this means it was minted at the Denver mint. In 1964, there were a little under 2.3 billion dimes minted with about 1.3 billion of them minted in Denver.

Your coin appears to be in at least Very Fine condition. A coin collector would be happy to have this one in their collection - especially if they obtained it in pocket change.

Roosevelts have a Full Torch (FT) designation;

Full Torch Designation DefinedPosted on 4/1/2003 NGC began certifying Full Torch (FT) Roosevelt dimes April 14, 2003. The designation FT for Full Torch will be applied to Roosevelt dimes having both upper and lower pair of horizontal bands split as well as the vertical lines of the torch being defined.

NGC began certifying Full Torch (FT) Roosevelt dimes April 14, 2003. The designation FT for Full Torch will be applied to Roosevelt dimes having both upper and lower pair of horizontal bands split as well as the vertical lines of the torch being defined. The FT designation will not apply to proof coins. The addition of the FT designation comes at the overwhelming request from NGC's collector and dealer base.

The following image illustrates what is required to receive the FT designation. Note the upper and lower set of horizontal bands that are required to be split without major interruptions. Notice also the vertical lines on the torch are also defined without major interruptions.

The FT designation will be included when applicable during the normal course of grading, and no special fee or service is required when submitting uncertified coins to NGC. For those having Roosevelt dimes already certified by NGC that may qualify for the FT designation, these may be submitted for review of their status under NGC?s Designation Review service at a fee of $10. This includes the cost of reholdering the coin. Coins holdered by other companies may be submitted to NGC under its Crossover Service, and their FT status will be evaluated in the course of grading the coins.

Yep it has to be both top and bottom for full torch. These are quite rare in the highest of grade but are not worth that much. I don't think this one would grade out as high as required to command the higher prices. Definitely an enjoyable piece. One any collector would like to have.
