Among my battered Franklin half-dollars, I found some Kennedys which, though circulated, are in fairly good shape. The few dealers I've asked said they're worth exactly the same whether worn or not (probably because they're mostly thinking of melting them down). But I was wondering - if I ever find a club, or if I were selling on Craigslist, would a good-condition Kennedy be worth any more than a battered one?

I would say no, with the high numbers minted only extremely fine quality or proof of the Kennedy's minted in the 60's would have any value over melt. The 1970 d would in my opinion be the only one that would stand out as it was only issued in mint sets.

It really depends of what Kennedys you are talking about. Since you mentioned Franklins, I assume you are more interested in the 1964-1969 issues. The 90% 1964s are the most common 90% silver half dollars available, they typically trade at melt value. The 40% issues for 1965-1969 are also very common but due to low silver content, they typically trade for a bit under melt value. I did not include the 1970D since that one was only issued in Mint Sets and is almost never found in circulated condition. The 1971-current Kennedys are cupronickel clad and are typically only worth face value.

High grade uncirculated kennedy's are worth more. While we can have an argument about whether we are in a modern-coin bubble- the going rate for MS-66+ Kennedy's in clad is $40+... with some dates selling for hundreds.

As for circulated coins- unless you find a rare variety, they are worth face.

My avatar.. is the key (lowest mintage) of the Kennedy half dollar series. And it came back from NGC as the highest grade.

He is a link of when I posted it

As for are all " Kennedy half dollars equal" the answer IMO would be no.

The silver proofs of 1995 and 1997 are good coins to have.
Also 1964 AH silver proof. And high grade 1982/1983 P and D's would be good coins to pick up.
