I think this is a struck through because you can still see the devices underneath, but I'm not sure. The hit to the rim concerns me as well. So what do I have here?

I think you've got PMD. Curious to see other's comments.

I'm not sure this makes a difference. But I got this coin out of a 2011-P LSC N.F. String roll out of a box of solely 2011-P LSCs.

It looks like it could be the piece of copper that is missing from the rim.Might have come loose and been struck through.Need an error expert and that's not me,but personally I'd hang onto it

I'm not an expert but I would think if the it was struck through then the device would be over the extra metal not under it.

DrDon, not really. You have to remember the planchet is blank and flat. Whatever falls on top will remain on top. The die is incuse.

Maybe a bag/bin mark from contact from another coin? Rim? Check other thread.

Could be coop, but both marks are the same shape..it seems pretty suspicious.

I was looking at the edge of the coin. I seemed like something happened in that area. Not sure. Just the first time I've seen this. Mike Diamond might have an idea. Depending on how many examples from the same die pair are in the same roll. I asked that question on the other thread.

Out of mind, maybe, out of town not really, just very busy getting ready for the FUN show. To the post. If this were "struck through a foreign object" I would think that less of the design would show underneath the damaged area. Yes, there is a transference of design through any object into the next object when struck. However, this seems to be a bit much on this coin. Also, as Coop pointed out, there is damage to the rim area in close proximity which is definitely PMD. where the two are connected is questionable. If you have the equipment or a high power loop (50X or higher) you should see some displaced metal above the field surrounding the damaged area. If so, this would possible indicate PMD. If the displaced metal is not there, then it could be possibly a "struck through a foreign object". BJ Neff
