And.....? Looks OK in the listing shot but, after having been burned once, I never bid on a coin that only has one side pictured.

normally I dont think I would either, but at just over silver value for the lot, I thought the gamble was worth it, if its a good coin, which is why I asked for opinions. I have been wrong before in my attempts at grading also, so I guess this is just asking for a little help/advice as well as opinions on the value/grading of the one (to me) nice coin.

Looking at the '59 Florin. Silver value would be the basis for valuation.
I am fortunate enough to have a proof (no egg), of this coin, it is the only pre decimal proof in my collection.

I nearly bid on this item because the florin looked ok. When you get it can you upload an obverse photo? Hopefully its a nice coin for you.

Most of the 59 florins are in pretty good shape for some reason, Maybe they had realy good dies for that mintage. There was only 3.5 million minted.

I am hanging onto every 1959 florin I get . They are the lowest mintage florin after the 1939 florin except for the 1954 and the 1951 comemeratives of only 2 million each so they should be rare and the value dosen't reflect this

You've done well erkle. The florin looks like a nice coin and $12 for the Florin alone is a good deal. Plus you got some bonus extras.
Six months ago these coins were going for ridiculous prices due to the price of silver and "bullion bugs" over bidding.
It's good to see they have come down to more realistic prices.

The reason why there a lot of good '59 florins about is that a new master die was cut for that year. If you look at a typical '58 florin, it is obvious to see that is was stuck using a worn die. Most '58 florins look like this.
I mentioned that I had a proof '59 florin. The reverse of the '59 circulation strike that I also have is not that much inferior to the proof. The uncirculated '58 florin I have by way of comparison, is a very poor strike.

Thanks for the info Sel I imagine the same reason goes for the 1936 florins as well they are normally found in better than average condition as well

it arrived along with some threepences this morning, very dirty in comparison to the ebay pic, almost seems as if the light was set up to reflect on the florin, but it is still a nice coin, will upload before and after pics as I do plan to give it a clean up with acetone. also came home yestie hoping to buy an online coin but I was to late :( so brought the emergency 50c and a 20c from the post office and gave the boy a bonus in pocket money instead.
