That's awesome to see so many varieties of cracks Nancy. And something else for me to look for now. I didnt really understand die cracks till you put your photos up, so thank you. I used to think the coin was cracked. Do you use a handheld digital microscope to hunt for them?
Kindest Regards Phillip

oddly enough, I found about 10 error coins in my last 10c bag, mostly grease filled or Cuds, just waiting on my 2 new loupes for $5 to show up so I can check the error bag proper, then I will post the better ones.

Quote: Do you use a handheld digital microscope to hunt for them? I use my poor old worn out eyes plus my reading glasses, plus a 5x loupe and if I'm in doubt I go up to a 10x loupe, but too much viewing with the 10x sends my eye nuts! I keep losing my loupes, I have at least 8 of them. All my loupes have 2 lenses, mostly double 5x, but my preferred one has a 6x and an 8x, but I haven't seen it for about 2 years. Coming soon - 20c Die cracks.

currently I have a home made glass of about 3-4x, a 10x loupe, and I ordered 45x and 60-100x microscopes I think it was, I cannot afford a pc microscope yet. and using the scanner to check coins is to time consuming.

i have 5-6 loupes too. My favourite is a 10x LED triplet Loupe and its fantastic to use on coins and gemstones, because I can use it in the dark. I just tried a 10x camera zoom lens and that was good for doing bulk 5c and easy on the eyes.
Nancy got me inspired to look for die crack errors, and out of approx $30 in 5c I have been through already.. I only found one very slight mis-strike in the whole lot. I seem to have my eye in for the mis-strike ones so I will just focus (pun) on them for the time being. but at least know what to look for with the die crack ones. Its only a matter of time till I see one, and I will be most excited when I do.

Quote: Do you use a handheld digital microscope to hunt for them? Philsky, You wouldn't believe what I now have sitting on my desk! One of these: http://www.kaiserbaas.com/kaiser-ba...l-microscope My son took me shopping yesterday and bought this for me. Got it for $65.00 at Harvey Norman. Officeworks have them available online only, $65 and HN price matched and we didn't have to wait for delivery or pay handling costs, which I think we would have done via Officeworks. [|| I won't be using it to search coins, but it takes pretty good pictures and close ups are easy. I will need to use external lighting for any coins in 2x2's or 1½ x1½'s, as the built in LED's reflect too much off the mylar. I plan to have a lot of fun with it, and will probably re-image all my coins, as they are nearly all scans and not as good as I would like. I was given a used Digital Blue QX5 Microscope a few years ago, but I had no idea how to set it up and my son finally had a go at it over the weekend. What a hassle!. It kept messing up his desktop and lighting was awful, so he put it back in the box and I ended up with this one. This is one of the trial piccies from it: 1934-35 Melbourne Centenary Florin, lighting still needs to be figured out.

Very impressive photo for a trial shot, especially at the price. I have looked at similar from Jaycar and Celestron but at 1.3Mp (and about $90) I didn't think they were quite up to the task. I can see a run on HN and Officeworks (who appear not to have them in stock). Look forward to more results. Maybe a new topic would be warranted.
Jeff PS Good coin too. Have been looking for a long time but still don't have one.
