I got this coin/medal quite a while ago and it was one of the first numismatic items I purchased. Since then I've never had any luck working out exactly what it is. It has a 1937 date on it but the bust of Queen Victoria that wasn't introduced until much later. This makes me think it obviously wasn't made that early but probably to commemorate a jubilee or something similar. Could someone maybe provide some more information on this piece? I'm interested about its purpose, composition and how it may have been distributed. Thanks

It's 1837-1897. These medals were issued to commemorate Victoria's Diamond Jubilee as monarch.

...and it's a British medal, not an Australian one. Official Royal Mint issue. Comes in three metals (gold, silver, bronze) and two sizes (56mm and 26mm). Listed in the Eimer catalogue as #1817, CV for the silver ones in British EF condition at £140 for the large, £22 for the small.

Well, 2.6 cm would be a better fit, but yes.
